We are
a Rescue Group for Irish Setters, founded in 1968 and operating throughout the British Isles - you
will find us listed in the Kennel Club Rescue Directory and likewise publications. We became
a Registered Charity in August 2008 - The Irish Setter Rescue Group Charitable Trust - 1125317
We depend on donations to run our rescue, not financially supported
by any Breed Club or Society, so we have to raise all our own funds. The Rescue is run by The Trustees,
a Management Group of up to 12 people plus our wonderful and much valued volunteers.
we are also fortunate to get lots of support and help from Irish Setter owners all over the country
- help that we need and appreciate very much. We are pleased to work with other rescue organisations
who need help with rehoming any of our breed.
Our remit is to take in any Irish Setter in need of our help - to get veterinary
treatment for them when necessary, we do not take all dogs to the vets unless there is a problem
that we are aware of to be treated or vaccinations are due. We rehome them in suitable, loving
homes and monitor their progress in their new homes until we are satisfied that all is well and both dog and
owners are happy. We require the owners of the setters we re-home to continue to keep in touch with the Rescue throughout
the lifetime of the Setter we give them, so that we can help and advise the owners should problems arise
at any time. Also should it become necessary, we take back into our care any of the dogs
we place, at any time throughout the lifetime of the dog, until they are too old or too ill to be re-homed
when we would discuss with the owner the best course of action to be taken in the
best interest of the setter.
All
the Setters who come into our care are kennelled at Four Seasons Kennels in Northants.
Jill & Ken Holley who own and run Four Seasons Kennels have also been in the breed
for a long time. Jill shows and occasionally breed with her setters,
she is a Championship Show Judge in the breed. The Rescue Setters get
care and attention, special diets, visits to the vets are all taken care of. We are most fortunate
to have our Rescue Setters looked after by such experienced people in the breed.
Ideally we would like some more kennelling space in Essex, Herts,
Surrey or Oxon which would be more convenient for dogs coming from the West Country.
